Frederick Webb Hodge was an ethnographer, archaeologist, editor and museum director. Hodge's first exposure to archaeology was as secretary of the Hemenway Southwestern Archaeological Expedition. When the project was over he returned to work at the Bureau of American Ethnology as Librarian.
